with Shepherdess.

Shepherdess is a community enterprise that celebrates the stories of women living rurally and brings isolated communities together. I worked with the small but mighty team to deeply understand their audience personas and create a master-brand communciations framework that could be adapted across their several brands, including a beautifully produced, award-winning magazine, a TV series and national festival.

I led a series of workshops with the team to complete brand and communications frameworks, plus marketing workshops to develop a calendar of activity that aligned with their core values and business goals, plus, executing website copy and advertising materials.

Positioning Development.

Shepherdess has deeply rural roots but aims to smash perceptions of rural life, a key part of this work was sharing stories that broke the traditional perspective of “farmer”, and telling stories of all walks of life.

The positioning tagline, “Everyday Life, Extraordinary Stories” was developed to show the depth and richness of Aotearoa’s rural communities that emerges from everyday yarns.

Messaging across verticals.

I also helped the team develop strategic communications plans and creative copy direction and tone for new verticals - a TV series and a festival.

The Shepherdess Muster copy development shows how we kept the tone and masterbrand voice alive while creating a seperate, creative iteration of the wider Shepherdess brand.

Gato Loco is more than your average hairdresser. They are a beacon for artists and creatives in the city and have bold plans to become a key player in New Zealand’s creative scene. In an extremely competitive environment, Gato Loco needed to stand out, through creative positioning and strategic SEO. Collaborating with a design partner, we ran a brand workshop to define the team’s positioning & brand messaging. Artists, Creatives, Hairstylists clearly defines them as the go-to stylists for creatives and sets them apart from everyday hairdressers. Their tone mixes a high-end experience with playful copy, plus an unapologetic brand position that speaks to artists and creatives.

As high-end hairstylists, we strategically targeted keywords for specific cuts. Gato Laco now ranks number 1 on Google in New Zealand for “curly hair specialist” and associated keywords.

Building is a significant investment, and the team are focused on communication and a commitment to heritage details.
